Yes, the song is a masterpiece in lyrical achievement. A little later, the next stanza of the song came about and it was, of course, ‘Papi Papi Papi Chulo’. Who were we to care then? We danced along too. It was his favourite song and he was dancing. A lot of the relatives were looking at us with questionable eyes. And without ear deafening volume for the music, apparently a baraat isn’t complete here. Mind you, this was a local North Indian baraat. ‘Mmmphs’, ‘Aahs’, and other such sounds reverberated. Soon, a lot of sexual grunting noises appeared in the song. Except that we had no clue what happens in the song after the first two lines are over. The groom was dancing along on his ghodi too. The band guy immediately played the song and for the first two lines which goes, yes, you guessed it right, ‘Papi Papi Papi Chulo’, we were all in it.

No wonder my college roommate used to hum it so much. On a whim, we went to the minivan-baraat-band-thingamagic and asked, “Bhaiya, ‘Papi Papi Papi Chulo’ gaana hain?” It turns out that the song is a rage in Ujjain. What to do then? We had to play the song somehow and none of us had it. Also, we wanted the song to be a surprise to him. Well, duh! But he was in his sherwani sitting on a ghodi and we doubted that he will be carrying his phone around. We were sure that the groom will have it. For who really likes the ‘Papi Papi’ song? My point exactly.

All of us were in favour of it except none of us had the song on our mobile phones. Thus, at his wedding as me and my friends were dancing in the baraat, a suggestion was mooted – to play the ‘Papi Papi’ song.

Yeah, he was the complete sing along dance package especially when it came to this song. I don’t recollect listening to this track independently ever except from the vocal chords of my college roommate and he even used to dance on it.

My college roommate’s favourite song, or rather the song which he used to sing almost always much to the mirth and annoyance of others was one Spanish track called ‘ Papi Papi Papi Chulo’.
